Govt to Secure Food Supply in Ramadan

The government said the national food supply during the fasting month of Ramadan will be backed up.

Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu emphasized the government's plans in securing food stock that the National Logistics Agency organizes in anticipation of possible disasters and climate change.

"Domestic food production and distribution must be optimized. Imports will only be carried out under certain circumstance," said Mari.

The minister further noted that the government is now attempting to protect food prices," she said.

Earlier, concerns over food scarcity which may take place during the Ramadan surfaced as rice stock managed by the National Logistics Agency was deemed insufficient.
