What is the value of backlinking?

Backlinking can substantially increase the traffic to your site. You don´t believe me? Try me. Send your link and I will publish it in this blog. Unless your site is already bathing in huge traffic volumes, any new link is likely to bring you additional visitors and additional search engine interest.

Having said that you should always keep in mind the quality of referred traffic. The bets are that a lot of traffic will be some sort of garbage: robots, random visitors who will spend a few seconds before moving on.

Why should you exchange links with this blog then? Three answers:

1. My readers are mostly bloggers, just like you. Get the attention of other bloggers in order to benefit from further links, comments etc.
2. Since I review all submissions, the quality of links will be monitored. This should help to ensure good standing with search engines.

NEW LINKING RULES

As already announced, I will not link to new blogs with a PageRank of less than 1. If you don´t know what a PageRank is, download and install the Google´s Toolbar. Once you have installed it, you will see the Google Toolbar at the top of your browsing window. Make sure that the following icon appears in the toolbar:

Visit your website. If the PageRank is grey, this means that your website/blog has not been yet indexed, and Google does not know that you exist.

If the PageRank is blank, Google knows you, but thinks that your website/blog is not important.

To some extend, the PageRank is determined by the number of important websites linking to you.

I will link to all blogs/websites that meet the minimum criteria and have a PageRank of at least of one (i.e. the PageRank icon must have some green color).

If you have already submitted a linking request, I will link to your site irrespective of your PageRank. However, all new requests will be affected.

Improving Your PageRank

Follow my tips to get your PageRank to the Level of 3 (why 3? - well, that´s where I got so far):

1. Publish original content. If you publish content from other sites, you will be penalized. One of my sites dropped from PageRank 3 to PageRank of 1, because one of my articles was not original. I republished it from a so-called free article database. It was a disaster. Don´t do it!
2. Get a few links from websites or blogs with a PageRank of at least 3. Link to some popular directories, such as Technorati (see the sidebar of my blog). Without external links you will never get any PageRank. Believe me! That´s how it works.
3. Get indexed by Google. If you are not indexed, Google will simply not be aware that you exist. You don´t need to submit to Google your URL - the Google robot will visit you, as long as there are external links pointing to your site.

Beware of Bad Link Building Strategy

If we are talking about search engine optimization, directly or not, it will relate to backlink, either those which come from internal or even external page. However, I won’t discuss the internal backlink at this moment. The reason is that the good and the bad of internal link structure won’t give us any penalty from search engines unless we make over optimization. Right now, I prefer to warn anybody who love to use bad link building strategy as I used to do long time ago, that is blind blog commenting.

As I put on the title, just beware of bad link building strategy! Google’s new policy is really strength against webmasters who still use this kind of method. If we keep that strategy until today, I am afraid that sooner or later, our websites will be banned and penalized for several months or years.

Well, can you imagine if your blog facing such problem guys? Can you keep enjoy in monetizing your blog? No need to wait your answer, I am pretty sure that none of you will still enjoy because once our blog has been penalized, our traffic must be decrease extremely. And that means, whatever make money online programs we joined in, will never give us good return of investment.

For that reason, just rethink your bad link building strategy from now on. You must be blogging for a long term and not in a short, right? However, the choice is yours. Here I just need to warn and give a little advise.
